I just read the article about the summit as it's being called in the paper. I follow the chat room on this sites main page and I remember a few weeks ago someone mentioning the closing of the high school, then someone else posted that it wasn't true, just 'angry parents' venting.
Now here we are a couple weeks later with this supposed untrue rumor headlining the paper. go figure.
Now onto the real reason for my posting.
In the article it states that this "summit" wasn't open to the public only business leaders as they have a financial stake in the district. This being all well and true, what about us parents who have more than a financial stake in the district, we have our childrens future at stake.
It was also stated that they hoped the "word would get out" as many don't attend the board meetings.
If they want the word to get out why not SEND A LETTER, instead of trying to squash any rumors that do get out as nothing but angry parents venting. I know there are good reason nobody attends these meetings. But expecting busy parents who have to work and feed and help their kids with homework to attend all these meetings isn't very realistic, and I feel that statement in the paper is a just a nasty dig at parents because we don't attend these waste of time meetings.
Then putting it in the paper is sure one way to get the word out, but I'm pretty sure not everyone reads the paper either.
The school board and superintendent should get their act and their facts straight to inform us parents in the proper way.
The state of our economy today is a sad state as I'm sure we are all well aware of. There are tons of budget cuts going on everywhere I'm sure most people in Michigan are certainly aware of this fact. But for the school board to hold a "summit" with the business owners only is not a very good way to go about starting this plan of action.
Then to top it off by stating that they just wanted the word to get out because nobody attends the meetings is pretty rotten.
I think if the school board went about things in a better and more respectful way us parents wouldn't feel so mad and angry at this group of people in charge of our childrens education.
Instead of making the teachers take a pay cut, or turning down the heat until the pipes burst and flood the classrooms, why not have the great and worthy business owners take up the slack and help the school district out. This article makes it seem like the school board are warning the business owners instead of trying to let us parents know where the future of our kid's is heading.
